Naked Athena was a surreal moment during the George Floyd/BLM protests of 2020. She walked out on a Portland street wearing just a mask and a hat and faced down the riot cops. She danced and twirled while heavily armed police pointed weapons at her. Some shot pepperballs at her feet. At one point a fellow protester ran up to try to protect her with a shield. She knew what she was doing and just stepped around him.
There's something incredibly powerful about confronting the brutal force of our police state totally naked. Her vulnerability makes their cruelty obvious and undeniable. We should all be so brave.
